As with others, I think it something to do with her dark brooding and perhaps relationship with Hughes, but I couldn't quite get a grip on it. Thanks for the analysis.Robert J. So the detective posits 'vaporization' in a kind of desperate humor. It's a poem of middle-age, of bodily changes, of gradual symbolic erosion of self by day to day living. In the end, our detective (THE detective, really--no less than Sherlock Holmes!) asks Watson to "Make notes," which is an invocation of the poem itself. ('Make' instead of 'take' here, so as to echo the classic invocation of the poet as 'Maker.') Watson's notes are the poem itself, the only evidence of spent time--the author's and the reader's alike. Great stuff.kenand66https://www.blogger.com/profile/16658958454281748364noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8424212323388794137.post-62060557880508253002013-08-30T14:31:30.115+11:302013-08-30T14:31:30.115+11:30I'm almost sure SP wasn't thinking of pest...I'm almost sure SP wasn't thinking of pesticides. I think that as the role of women in the world is increasing and the role of the man-woman relationship is being revised, the greatest fear for women is that they won't really be there at all in a fully human way, but somehow maintained, as they have all too often been in the past , as a useful convenience for the male. "The milk came yellow, then blue and sweet as water." the health problems chemicals cause and the crow can also represent the death of anything living in that valley that was killed by the chemicals.
